Equal rights

"The explanation lies in the fact that the core of citizenship at this stage was composed of civil rights. And civil rights were indispensable to a competitive market economy. They gave to each man, as part of his independent status, the power to engage as an independent unit in the economic struggle and made it possible to deny him social protection on the ground that he was equipped with the means to protect himself."

      I chose this quote because I believe it is important for everyone one know that there is a distinction between civil rights and social rights. Prior to this reading it was all on and the same to me. This class reading further shows the injustice of black people and women and just how much of a struggle there was.
      It's important to recognize this because in today's society people take for granted the freedoms we have. People don't know why it is important to utilize every opportunity they have to exercise there rights. Instead they stay quiet and not vote and believe they have a right to complain about the direction the country is going in.
      I am grateful for these quotes to share and hopefully as I discuss them people will some bay appreciate the work of the people before us.
